CHALLENGE

Gisborne Fisheries operated two 1970s-era trawlers with winches driven by engine-mounted belt drives. This setup posed significant safety risks and operational inefficiencies. The belt drives required manual engagement with a lever bar, increasing the risk of accidents and wear. Compared to hydraulic systems, the belt drives also lacked precise control, durability, and reliability under load.
